The ProteoSpin™ Abundant Serum Depletion Kit provides a fast and simple procedure for the effective depletion of major serum proteins including albumin, α-antitrypsin, transferrin and haptoglobin from serum and plasma samples.  This reduces the complexity of the sample and allows for the investigation of less abundant proteins more conveniently.  Abundant proteins usually obscure less abundant proteins on gel electrophresis making it difficult to visualize and recover less abundant proteins.  In other applications such mass spectroscopy, fractionating abundant proteins improves the resolution of less abundant proteins.  This kit provides a very quick and affordable tool to accomplish the reduction and fractionation of plasma or serum proteins.  In addition, since this kit does not employ expensive antibodies that are specific for certain proteins of a specific species, Norgen's kit  can be used to deplete abundant proteins of several species, therefore increasing its versatility and utility.  

The kit is unique in that it is based on an ion-exchange mechanism and not the use of specific antibodies.  As a result, the kit can be used to deplete serum proteins from a wide variety of samples, including human and various animals.  Breifly, the protein sample is bound to the column under specific conditions such that the majority of proteins will bind to the column while the abundant proteins will be removed in the flowthrough (BIND).  The bound proteins are then washed to remove any remaining adundant proteins (WASH).  Lastly, the depleted serum proteins are eluted into a small volume of the provided Elution Buffer (ELUTE).  Please see the procedure flowchart to the right.
