THOROLD, ON, August 20, 2007 - Norgen Biotek Corp., an innovative Canadian biotechnology company focusing primarily on advancing powerful tools for nucleic acid and protein purification, today announced the expansion of its product offering by launching three new kits for the isolation of RNA and DNA from both the exfoliated cells and bacteria found in urine samples.
Norgen’s Urine (Exfoliated Cell) RNA Purification Kit and Urine (Exfoliated Cell) DNA Purification Kit will enable scientists to isolate total RNA or genomic DNA from exfoliated cells that have been shed into the urine from the urinary tract. The nucleic acids isolated using these novel kits can be used in a number of research applications including studying biomarkers that can be used for the diagnosis and monitoring of bladder, kidney, or other urinary-tract cancers. These kits can be used to isolate RNA or DNA from as little as 1 mL of urine. The purified nucleic acids are of the highest quality and integrity, and are well suited to sensitive downstream applications such as PCR, Real-Time PCR, RT-PCR, Northern Blotting and Southern Blotting.
The Urine Bacteria RNA Purification Kit is designed for the rapid preparation of bacterial RNA from urine samples. This product allows for the isolation of total RNA from all bacteria present in urine samples, facilitating the study of the levels and types of bacteria present, as well as the stage of bacterial pathogenesis through the use of RNA biomarkers. This kit is ideal for the isolation of RNA from a wide range of bacteria found in urine, including Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
These Urine (Exfoliated Cell) RNA and DNA Purification Kits and Urine Bacteria RNA Purification Kit together with the previously-released Urine DNA Isolation Kit, Urine Bacteria DNA Isolation Kit and Urine Protein Concentration Kits constitute an extensive range of urine-based sample preparation products. Such enabling products facilitate research for the detection and monitoring of cancer markers, bacterial infections and biomarker studies.
